Gravedigger - Dave Matthews

Cyrus Jones 1810 to 1913
Made his great grandchildren believe
he could live to a 103
A hundred and three is forever when you’re just a little kid
So, Cyrus Jones live forever

Gravedigger
When you dig my grave
Could you make it shallow
So that I can feel the rain
Gravedigger

Muriel Stonewall 1903 to 1954
She lost both of her babies in the second great war
Now, you should never have to watch your only children lowered in the ground
that means you should never have to bury your own babies

Gravedigger
When you dig my grave
Could you make it shallow
So that I can feel the rain
Gravedigger

Ring around the rosey
Pocket full o'posey
Ashes to ashes
{Musical intro}
We all fall down

Gravedigger
When you dig my grave
Could you make it shallow
So that I can feel the rain
Oh Gravedigger

Little Mikey Carson '67 to '75
He rode his bike like the devil until the day he died
When he grows up he wants to be Mr. Vertigo on the flying trapeze
Oh, 1940 to 1992--

Gravedigger
When you dig my grave
could you make it shallow
So that I can feel the rain
Grave digger
When you dig my grave
Could you make it shallow
So that I can feel the rain
I can feel the rain
I can feel the rain
Gravedigger
When you dig my grave
Could you make it shallow
So that I can feel the rain
Gravedigger
Grave digger

Wake Up - Mad Season

Wake up young man, it's time to wake up
Your love affair has got to go
For 10 long years, for 10 long years
The leaves to rake up
Slow suicide's no way to go, oh
Blue, clouded grey
You're not a crack up
Dizzy and weakened by the haze
Moving onward
So an infection not a phase
Yeah, oh

The cracks and lines from where you gave up
They make an easy man to read, oh
For all the times you let them bleed you
For little peace from God you plead, and beg
For little peace from God you plead
Ahhaahh, Yeah, Ahhaahh, Yeah, Ahhaahh, Yeah

Wake up young man, wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up
Oh, yeah

Wake up young man, it's time to wake up
Your love affair has got to go, yeah
For 10 long years, for 10 long years,
The leaves to rake up
Slow suicide's no way to go, oh
Slow suicide's no way to go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up

Carvel - John Frusciante

When I try I force it out
Never looking in only out
Now is the time for millions to lose
Never the same since I lost you
Running me out of town
Wishing the best around
Would only get off my back
Heaven receives you and throws you back

Sending a dummy to my God (x4)

Driving to eat a Carvel cake
Somewhere you know isn't where you think
Have you gone away
Have you gone, have you gone away already
(come back, come back, come back, come back)
Have you gone, have you gone away already
(come back, come back, come back, come back)
Have you gone, have you gone away already
(come back, come back, come back, come back)
Have you gone, have you gone away already

All the good times are on their way
Up and down that's how energy stays alive
Up and down that's how energy stays alive
And I wouldn't have it any other way

Depending on how you feel, this song can hit you between the eyes, take you along or really make you think. John has an unusual gift for evoking so many emotions through his music at once, and here, he is at his most masterful.
It is amazing how somebody can manage to cause an entire palette of emotions with just one song... A masterpiece from J, as usual...

Heal me, I'm heartsick

Heal me, i'm heartsick
I'm hungry and i'm broken
I'm haunted, and weeping
The blood of heaven flowing like a river tonite, tears i can't fight on my own
I'm a haunted, heaving, i'm hung and barely breathing
The drowning ocean, snuff the sun in motion.
Theres a pill on my tongue, a shot from a gun , the bottles bottom
I'm lonely as a star

So heal me, i'm heart sick
Hungry, but i can survive on you
Heal my heartsick hungry cries
I'm heartsick

Father, free me. Mama, woman, feed me.
Child of fury, lost his way but don't worry.
I won't stop til the dawn,
Though i'm in too long on the run i grow strongad restless as a dog

Heal me
I'm heart sick
I'm hungry and i'm broken
I'm haunted, and weeping
The blood of heaven flowing like a river tonite
Tears i can't fight on my own

A PAIN THAT I'M USED TO

I'm not sure what I'm looking for anymore
I just know that I'm harder to console
I don't see who I'm trying to be instead of me
But the key is a question of control

Can you say what you're trying to play anyway
I just pay while you're breaking all the rules
All the signs that I find have been underlined
Devils thrive on the drive that is fueled

All this running around, well it's getting me down
Just give me a pain that I'm used to
I don't need to believe all the dreams you conceive
You just need to achieve something that rings true

There's a hole in your soul like an animal
With no conscience, repentance unknown
Close your eyes, pay the price for your paradise
Devils feed on the seeds that are sown
I can't conceal what I feel, what I know is real
No mistaking the faking, I care
With a prayer in the air I will leave it there
On a note full of hope not despair

All this running around, well it's getting me down
Just give me a pain that I'm used to
I don't need to believe all the dreams you conceive
You just need to achieve something that rings true

C'mon girl

My tryst with the Red Hot Chili Peppers began five years ago. Used to listen to Californication a lot.. With its funky beats, rap-like lyrics and a cool videogameish video, it was a rage in college. Our seniors used to play it on their computers and I was hooked to it then. And that was that.

These days, I'm in love with RHCP's 2006 album, Stadium Arcadium. It is straight out of heaven :). It runs in an infnite loop in my player and I still can't get enough of it. So, what's so good about it?

Everybody loves 'singles', the popular songs in an album. It's tough to fall in love with a whole album unless you are a die-hard fan because more often than not the other songs are, well, boring. Stadium Arcadium is an exception. Each one of it's songs is a gem. I'm gonna pick some songs and review them in the coming days. I'll start with ' C'mon Girl '.

It's tough to review a song because there isn't a standard way to day so. For some, it's about the music, beats and arrangements, for some it's about the lyrics, for some, the singing. For me, it's about how you feel.. how happy you are while listening to a song. And it's very tough to express that. It's almost an art. I'll try to develop that art as I write here in this blog in the days to come. For now, I'll settle with the tried and tested way of reviewing. So, now..

C'mon girl is a funky song. I mean, it falls into the 'Funk Rock' genre. It is writen, set to a nice tune and sung wonderfully by Anthony Kiedis while John Frusciante weaves some magic with his guitar and arrangements. The song is about a guy persuading his girl to come back and "get it right" between them. The lyrics are mostly gibberish, probably reflecting the state of mind the guy after being semi-dumped.

The song starts with a nice funky beat which persists throughout the song, to good effect. Just when you start to enjoy it, Kiedis begins beautifully - "Everything inside me is burning up for you to see.." . Some more good lyrics follow. I especially like the line "I wanted to get out of here but everytime I reappear". Makes sense for 'oh-shit-i'm-back-at-office-again' lives like mine I think.. So, again, you start to enjoy these lines and the tune when the song shifts to the next gear.. John gets serious with his guitar and Kiedis too renders the lines "C'mon girl.. Let's get it right" at an energetic pitch. This is the best part of the song.

The rest of the song follows the same pattern and is very enjoyable. All in all, the song is pure fun. It just takes a couple of hearings to love it, I believe, unless you are bent on hating it, of course :) . So, please go ahead and listen to the song and come back and discuss how you like it. You can find the lyrics here. And the song, well, google it, or exploseek it, or just mail me :) I'd jump in joy and share it with you..

And those who've been loving it, well, Yo! :)

Obsession is Good

In a way Obsession is good.In a way, it's a curse.Being obsessed with the person you love, with your favourite ice-cream,favourite actor, football team etc are all fine.

In my case it happened to be five prodigal sons of bitches collectively called MAROON 5.My life was so plain dull before I've ever heard of 'em.Post SAJ, things were simple-clear-beautiful.I started to see things differently. The lyrics are soulful and touching. You can connect with them so easily.Especially if you are a person who diggs more into the lyrics. The one who starts reading between the lines.

Their debut record 'Songs about Jane' (we like to keep it short- SAJ), was no success overnight. It almost took 2 years for their album to make it into Billboard HOT 100.They toured like crazy.800 gigs. They were on road for like 2 years.'This Love','Harder to Breathe' and 'She will be Loved' were their smash hits.

Their much-awaited sophomore studio album IT WONT BE SOON BEFORE LONG (IWBSBL) was released on 22nd May, gaining success overnight. The first single MAKES ME WONDER had the biggest jump in the history of Billboard Hot 100 from #64 to #1.The lyrics as always deal with the relationship issues throwing light on finer points of love.

The Second single WAKE UP CALL is a typical Levine-Anger-Venting number with groovy funk which is a trademark of the band. The lines

I live on raw emotion baby

I answer questions never maybe

And I'm not kind if you betray me.

So who the hell are you to save me

give the song an angry start. The message the song carries terribly resembles an unpublished work of the band shortly called SDMF.Wake up call has the potential in it to become another chartbuster.

KIWI - as the name suggests would leave the first time listeners in a misconception that it is about a fruit,or Country, but none would have expected a song about ORAL SEX.

The album has a bitter sweet symphony of life, summing up the emotions for your girl, in WONT GO HOME WITHOUT YOU.This haunting melody ,is Adam's favorite track on the new record.

CAN'T STOP is a Maroon 5 signature styled number with fast-groovy beats.Matt Flyn, the new drummer of the band did extremely well, answering all the raised eye-brows questioning his replacement of Ryan Dussick.

Tracks like If I never see your face again,Goodnight Goodnight,Better that we break,Not falling Apart are the one which grow on you slowly but nevertheless take you down.

Back at your door is a composition of Jesse Carmichael (Keys) and has excellent orchestration with b.e.a.u.tiful lyrics.

Nothing lasts forever is one of favourites and has a lot to offer.Amazing Stuff - lyrics, melody,Adam's vocals of course. The lines

But we have not hit the ground

Doesn't mean we're not still falling

give you something to think about.

Little of your time has this unusual pace which you'll find interesting. The chorus, the rhythms make this song more catchy.

It wont be soon before long definitely is a record worth the wait. With more than 400k copies sold world-wide in the first week, this album is bigger than its predecessor for sure.

Go on, be obsessed.
